Tagging out of the magazine for a little while to talk about politics. Yesterday a Romney bus drove around honking outside an Obama speech in Ohio. And today a Daily Caller (tory paper) reporter interrupted Obama’s speech in the Rose Garden TWICE. He was talking about enacting by executive order a scaled down version of the DREAM act (immigration) that mirrors basically exactly what the GOP says it wants to do to suck up to latino voters.

This is such a case of Josh Marshall’s “Bitch Slap Politics” on both counts. It’s becoming increasingly clear that thuggish behavior in the media is going to be a hallmark of the GOP side through the election. Just how much can they disrespect the President in public?

It’s not about policy, it’s not about strength and weakness, it’s about perceived strength and weakness. And Obama doesn’t do righteous anger that well, so they might be hoping he actually goes all Hulk on someone, but they’re probably hoping he stands there and takes it and looks weak and that that’s enough to win an election.

They certainly can’t do it on policy.

How do we set up Obama to win that image fight without actually pushing our democracy into pure thuggery escalation?

Hard. Fucking. Job.
